BUCHANAN — It is a simple equation.

Elementary school students plus grandparents equals fun.

Moccasin Elementary School students found that out Thursday during the Buchanan school’s annual Special Friends Day.

Students were encouraged to bring their grandparents — or a special friend — to school for a day filled with young-meets-old activities.

Grandparents shared stories of what school was like in their day, while helping the youngins complete math and spelling problems.

Principal Karin Falkenstein said the district has been hosting the annual event for more than 30 years.

“It’s a good way for the students to have some one-on-one time with their grandparents or special friend,” Falkenstein said.

Kindergarten and preschool students participated Thursday. First- and second-graders will bring their special friends today.
