PAW PAW — Dontel Highsmith won three individual events and was part of a winning relay team as visiting Dowagiac defeated Paw Paw 87-49 in Wolverine Conference boys track Tuesday.

The Chieftain girls team was not as fortunate, falling to the Redskins 97-38.

Highsmith won the long jump (21-1), 100-meters (11.22) and the 200-meters (23.89). He joined forces with Dontrell Tucker, Kyle Solloway and Brendon Murray to win the 400-meter relay with a time of 45.68.

Chris Gantt won the 1,600- and 3,200-meters with times of 4:31.1 and 10:19.42 respectively. Sam Courtney won the shot put (45-0.5) and was part of the winning 1,600-meter relay team with Lucas Petro, Solloway and Craig Zebell.

Zebell also won the 800-meters (2:13.59) and was part of the winning 800-meter relay team (1:41.08) along with Petro, Solloway and Derek Stark.

Stark won the 400-meters with a time of 1:00.6.

Crieona Rodgers was a double winner for the girls team as she captured the long jump (14-10.5) and the 100-meters (13.40). Sister Correisha Rodgers won the high jump (5-0). They combined with Jacoya Brookins and Rosario Murray to win the 400-meter relay (53.19).

“We were very pleased with the effort and commitment from both teams tonight,” Dowagiac coach Ken Jordan said. “It was a fun meet to participate and coach in.”
