The defensive and offensive woes of the Dowagiac softball team continued Thursday.

The Chieftains committed six errors and had just six hits in a Wolverine Conference doubleheader loss to visiting Vicksburg.

The Bulldogs won the opener 14-1 and then completed the sweep with a 13-0 win in the nightcap. Both games lasted just five innings.

“We continue to struggle defensively tonight against a good Vicksburg team,” Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke said. “Right now, we are having trouble making some of the routine plays, which are leading to big innings for the other team.

“Our schedule doesn’t get any easier with St. Joe on Monday and South Haven on Tuesday.”

Rachel Bailey and Shelby Huston had the two hits for the Chieftains in the first game. Amanda Craft and Corinne Kasper were both 2-for-2 in the nightcap.
