Edwardsburg’s fire board Tuesday night confirmed third-generation firefighter Bruce Stack as its next chief.
Stack, 53, and a 19-year department veteran, receives a $14,000 salary for what he referred to Wednesday as a “full-time part-time position.”
Stack oversees a department with a roster of 29.
He was first assistant when longtime chief Harold “Willie” Eltzroth stepped down in December.
“I have big shoes to fill,” said Stack, whose skills as a self-employed carpenter came in handy when the department remodeled Georgie Boy’s factory on M-62 into a fire station.
He served in a variety of capacities advancing through the ranks, from first and second assistant chief to captain and lieutenant. There will be a fourth generation, too.
“I’ve got a son following me,” Stack said.
