Back to work for area teams

Spring break has many of the area sports teams on hiatus this week, but beginning Friday, action resumes for the Niles and Brandywine baseball programs.

The Vikings will play in a two-day tournament at Ward Baker Park in Mishawaka, Ind. Brandywine will host a round robin tournament Saturday.

The Bobcats and Buchanan softball teams will travel to Comstock to compete in the Colt Fastpitch Invitational Saturday.

Mishawaka tournament

The Vikings (0-1) will take on host Mishawaka in the second game Friday at 4 p.m. Westview and St. Joseph will open the tournament at 1 p.m.

The losers of the opening day games will square off at 1 p.m. Saturday with the winners to follow at 4 p.m. for the championship.

Cost is $5 per person and is good for both games. Concessions will be available.

Brandywine Round Robin

The Bobcats will host the first of several round robin tournaments this spring Saturday.

New Buffalo and Parchment will take part in this tournament.

Brandywine will take on the Bison in the opening game at 10 a.m.

The Panthers and New Buffalo will face each other at noon with the Bobcats and Parchment wrapping up the tournament at 2 p.m.

Cost is $5 per carload and is good for the entire date. No concessions will be available.

Colt Fastpitch Invitational

Action will begin at the Eastwood Little League Complex at 11 a.m.

Host Comstock will take on Brandywine in the opening game at 11 with Buchanan facing Portland, Paw Paw taking on Coloma and Bronson facing Pinconning.

The winners of the first round will meet at 1 p.m. with the championship game scheduled for 3 p.m. The consolation bracket will also have games at 1 and 3 p.m.

The fourth- and fifth-place game as well as the seventh- and eighth-place game will be held at 3 p.m.

Admission is $5 per person or $15 per carload. Concessions will be available.

Brandywine JV

The Brandywine JV were scheduled to host a tournament as well Saturday at Thomas Stadium.

Niles and Centreville were scheduled to compete, but the Bulldogs have dropped out.

If no replacement team is found, the Bobcats and Vikings will play a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m.

If a third team is located, Niles and Brandywine will play at 10 a.m. with the other games scheduled to follow with Niles playing at noon and Brandywine playing at 2 p.m.

Admission is $4 per carload. Concessions will be available.
