Edwardsburg softball sweeps Sturgis

STURGIS — Visiting Edwardsburg swept Sturgis Wednesday afternoon in its season opener.

The Eddies took down Sturgis 10-3 in the nightcap after slamming Sturgis with six runs in the third inning.

Sturgis’ pitchers couldn’t stop Nicole Brooks at the plate. Brooks went 2-for-2, drove in one and scored one run.

Delaney Peters recorded the win for Edwardsburg. She allowed three runs over four innings. Struck out one, walked one and surrendered eight hits.

The Eddies beat Sturgis 7-3 in the opening game behind both the bat and the arm of  Jill Blough.

Blough went 2-for-3 and scored one run. She doubled in the third inning and singled in the fourth inning.

Blough baffled Sturgis, striking out five batters. She allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks over five innings.

Teryn Williams also had two hits for the Eddies.

Edwardsburg never surrendered the lead after the third inning, scoring one run on an error.
