MHSAA wrestling update: Burandt wins consolation match

AUBURN HILLS – Add Niles’ Casey Burandt to the list of first round consolation winners Friday at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Burandt joined teammate Ryan Casey , Victor Moranchel of Brandywine and Dominic Forbes of Cassopolis as winners in their first matches of the consolation round Friday morning to remain alive in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Individual Wrestling Finals.
Niles’ Brenden Meek and Fritzel Findeisen did not win their first round matches and are eliminated from the tournament.
Casey decisioned Jake Martin of Riverview 7-2 and Forbes decisioned Clae Henderson of Saginaw Nouvel 8-2 to advance in the 189-pound weight class.
Moranchel decisioned Brock Vicek of Manchester 10-6.
Burandt decisioned Jared Vodry of Cedar Springs 4-2 in his 135-pound match.
Findeisen was pinned by Matthew Minus of Flint Kearsly in 4:08 at 152.
Meek was pinned by Lowell’s Derek Krajewski in 2:37.
Consolation round matches continue this morning at The Palace. The championship quarterfinals are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. The second round of consolation is slated to begin at 2 p.m. And the championship semifinals are set for 7 p.m.
