The Niles District Library will host Lin Pollard of the Underground Railroad Society of Cass County (URSCC) to speak about local participation in the Underground Railroad, the infamous Kentucky Raid and the Bonine House Restoration Project undertaken by their organization at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Following the URSCC presentation at noon, the Niles District Library and the Niles Chapter of the NAACP will co-host “A Taste of Soul: Heritage Recipe Cook-off.” This is an opportunity to sample some of the best soul food in the area or to share a batch of that special family recipe with an appreciative crowd.

The library invites the public to taste and vote for their favorite.

Awards will be given in the following categories: Youth, Teen, Adult and a special prize for the best recipe story or history. Registration is requested, though not required.

For more information on these programs, or to register for Taste of Soul, go to the library Web page at www.nileslibrary.com or call the Niles District Library information desk at 683-8545 ext.112.

Every program or event at the Niles District Library is free to the public.
