Big second half lifts Bobcats

A big second half allowed the Brandywine girls basketball team to wrap up its regular season with a perfect 12-0 Lakeland Conference mark Tuesday night.

The Bobcats (19-1 overall) led just 30-25 at halftime against Coloma after holding a 15-12 lead after one quarter

In the final 16 minutes, Brandywine outscored the Comets 32-13 to take a 62-38 victory, which extended its league winning streak to 41 games.

Seniors Carlie Newman and Madison Pellow combined for 39 of the Bobcats’ 62 points as they played their school-record 93rd varsity contest.

Newman finished with a game-high 25 points, while Pellow added 14. Niles also got 11 points from freshman Brooke Smith as they defeated Coloma for the second time in a week.

Leading by seven points, 42-35, heading into the fourth quarter, the Bobcats exploded for 20 points, while holding the Comets to a basket and a free throw from Chelsea Cesotenuto.

Amanda Swihart led Coloma with 16 points.

Brandywine ranked No. 4 in Class C, will open up defensive of its district championship Monday night when it hosts Watervliet. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
