Chieftains hold off Three Rivers

THREE RIVERS — Visiting Dowagiac outscored Three Rivers 21-14 in the third quarter to break a halftime deadlock.

The Chieftains and Wildcats were tied at 27-27 after 16 minutes of play. Dowagiac outscored Three Rivers 33-26 in the second half to immerge with the 60-53 Wolverine Conference victory.

Dowagiac will now take on Otsego Tuesday night with the conference lead hanging in the balance.

Dontel Highsmith led all scorers with 26 points for the Chieftains, who also got 11 points from Tyler Clark and eight points from Gavin Taylor.

Alex Cottingham had 17 points for the Wildcats.

THREE RIVERS — For the first two quarters Friday night, Dowagiac played well against Wolverine Conference runner-up Three Rivers.

Then came the second half.

Trailing just 22-13 at the intermission, the Chieftains were outscored 16-5 in the third quarter as the Wildcats remained a game behind league-leading Paw Paw with a 50-26 victory.

Dowagiac (1-14, 1-11 Wolverine) scored 13 points in each half, while Three Rivers (14-2, 11-1 Wolverine) scored 28 second half points.

Correshia Rodgers led the Chieftains with seven points, Jessica Herthoge, Kylee Williams, Carly Polomcak and Regina Kennedy all scored four points.

Linsey Masnari led the Wildcats with a game-high 25 points. Teagan Reeves added 15.
