Early deficit too much for Dowagiac

PLAINWELL —Host Plainwell outscored Dowagiac 14-3 in the first quarter and never looked back in defeating the Chieftains 49-31 Tuesday night in Wolverine Conference girls basketball.

The Chieftains were held to just 10 first half points as the Trojans (10-6) were able to open up a 14-point halftime advantage, 24-10.

Dowagiac played better offensively in the second half, but were unable to make up the early deficit.

The Chieftains were down 36-19 after three quarter. Plainwell held a 25-21 advantage in scoring the last two quarters of the contest.

Not a single player reached double figures in the game.

Miranda Monroe and Sarah Morrell each had nine points for the Trojans, who also got eight points from Melanie Hyames.

Kylee Williams connected on a trio of 3-pointers to finish with nine points for the Chieftains. Correshia Rodgers added eight points and Regina Kennedy seven.
