THREE OAKS — Despite battling illness, the Brandywine Bobcats were too much for host River Valley Monday night in a non-conference boys basketball contest.

The Bobcats (4-5) defeated the Mustangs 50-39.

Brandywine and River Valley were knotted at 4-4 after one period of play, but the Bobcats took a 20-15 lead at the intermission after outscoring the Mustangs 16-11 in the second quarter.

The lead reached as many as 22 in the second half before Brandywine coach Nathan Knapp emptied the bench.

“We worked on a few things,” he said. “I’m not going to embarrass those kids on the other team. We have been battling illness, but we did a lot of good things.”

Mykal Toxopeus led the Bobcats with 12 points. Alex Erwin added 11.

Elisha Dryden had 20 points for the Mustangs.
