Wildcats top Vikings

Visiting Mattawan doubled up Niles 18-9 in the first half en route to a 37-23 Big 16 Conference West Division victory Friday night.

The Vikings (3-6, 1-3 West) were blanked in the second quarter by the Wildcats (4-2, 3-1 West).

The two teams were deadlocked at 9-9 after one quarter of play, but the Wildcats scored nine points in the second half and pitching the shutout to take an 18-9 advantage at intermission.

Things didn’t get much better for the Vikings in the second half as Niles managed only 14 points over the final two periods.

The Wildcats led 30-16 heading into the final quarter.

Mattawan standout Allie Havers had a game-high 19 points for the Wildcats, who did not have another player in double figures. Amanda Mohney finished with eight points.

Alexis Arnold and Michelle Briand each had eight points for the Vikings. Niles leading scorer Maureen Craig, who set the school record for 3-pointers in her career last week, has held scoreless by the Wildcats.

Niles struggled tremendously from the field Friday night, hitting just 3-of-32 3-point attempts and 10-of-54 overall from the field. MATTAWAN 37
