Penn Township firefighters list as undetermined the origin of a fire that burned a farmhouse Friday night on Crooked Creek, Chief Jim Bogue said Tuesday.
The Devin DeWitt family that lives in the home was not there, but their dogs and cats perished.
Bogue said it took firefighters three hours to contain the blaze, with mutual aid assistance from Cassopolis and water from Newberg Township. The fire was detected when a neighbor noticed flames, the chief said.
Bogue said insurance investigators arrived at the scene Tuesday.
