Berrien County Board of Commissioners calls for volunteers

ST. JOSEPH — The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has openings for volunteers to serve.

Transportation
The Public Transportation Local Advisory Council needs a representative of the general public. The purpose of this council is to assure that within the Berrien Bus operating area, seniors and handicapped individuals will receive a level of transportation service equal to that given to the general public and to serve as an advisory body to the Board of Commissioners on public transportation matters.  The ideal candidate would be someone who uses public transportation and can offer a perspective on improvements or someone who deals with getting transportation for patients, etc.  The term is for three years through January 2015. The meetings, held at the Administration Center, 701 Main St. in St. Joseph, are three times a year in January, May and September.

Human Services
The Michigan Department of Human Services Board has a vacancy for a Berrien County resident.  The purpose of the board is to serve in the advisory capacity to the Michigan Department of Human Services, which administers and provides assistance payments and social services programs for the residents of Berrien County.  The Department of Human Services is run by the state, and the board members serve in an advisory capacity.  The individuals who sit on this board may not hold a political office.  Two of the members are county-appointed and one is state-appointed.  The term is for three years and the meetings are held the third  Wednesday of each month.  at the Department of Human Services building, 401 Eighth St. in Benton Harbor.
