STEVENSVILLE — The Niles volleyball team defeated Buchanan 25-21 and 25-21 to capture the championship of the Lakeshore Invitational Saturday.

The Vikings, who went 1-2 in pool play, defeated host Lakeshore in the semifinals 18-25, 25-14 and 15-7.

In pool play, Niles defeated St. Joseph 25-24, 21-25 and 15-13. The Vikings lost to Buchanan 25-22, 16-25 and 11-15. Niles also was defeated by Mishawaka Marian 25-17, 25-14.

The Vikings will travel to Dowagiac tonight for a non-league match.

PORTAGE — The Niles JV volleyball team won the Silver Division of the Portage Northern Invitational with a 25-22 and 25-23 victory over Kalamazoo Christian.

To reach the finals, the Vikings split with Plainwell (23-25, 25-23), lost to Battle Creek Lakeview (25-22, 25-23), split with Paw Paw (17-25, 25-19), defeated Marshall (25-14, 25-17) and defeated Lakeshore (25-21, 25-17).
