CASSOPOLIS — A Niles man busted for cocaine possession is headed to jail.

Earl Horner, 37, was sentenced to three months in Cass County Jail Friday in Cass County Circuit Court. He will receive credit for 34 days already served.

The offense stems from when a police officer stopped Horner for riding his bicycle on a highway — M-56 in Howard Township. The officer discovered an outstanding warrant in Berrien County. A pat-down search also revealed Horner to be in possession of pipes with cocaine residue on them.

“It’s not good to graduate into the drug big leagues,” Prosecutor Victor Fitz said.

Horner failed to appear in court for his original sentencing date on June 3, which led to a more severe sentence.

For his part, Horner was apologetic.

“I have no excuses. I know I made mistakes,” he said.
