Barn Swallow Theatre presents a light-hearted comedy, “Bad Year for Tomatoes,” June 23-26.

Barn Swallow Theater will present "A Bad Year for Tomatoes" this week.

The play, written by John Patrick and directed by Stacie Jensen, will be presented at the Edwardsburg Intermediate School Cafetorium, located at 27157 U.S. Highway 12, behind the administration building south of U.S. 12. Show times are 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday.

The play centers around actress Myra Marlowe, played by Indiana State University-South Bend senior Amorena Ruffolo, who is fed up with the pressures and demands of her career and decides to lease a house in a tiny hamlet of Beaver Haven to settle down and write her autobiography.

Marlowe is successful in turning down acting offers from her agent, but dealing with her nosy, omnipresent neighbors is a different matter. In an attempt to shoo them away and get some privacy, she invents a mad homicidal sister, who is kept locked in an upstairs room, but who occasionally escapes long enough to scare off uninvited visitors.

The cast features performers from Edwardsburg, Dowagiac and South Bend who promise to provide an evening of intrigue, mystery and lots of laughs.

Reservations may be secured for adults, seniors and children 12 and under, by calling (269) 445-2511.
