SMC to offer safety course for licensed residential builders

Southwestern Michigan College is offering a code, safety and law course for licensed residential builders May 9 and May 23. The sessions will be held at the Niles Area Campus. All sessions run from 6 to 9:10 p.m. Participants only need to sign-up for one of the sessions. This course is required as a continuing competency for licensed residential builders. The non-credit course will cover residential building code updates; construction safety as defined by the Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration; and legal documentation required for Michigan residential builders. Individuals who were initially licensed prior to Jan. 1, 2009 are required to have three hours of continuing competency covering building codes, safety and construction, and business management laws. Cost for the class is $55. The classes will meet in the MTEC facility in rooms 214 and 215. To register, go to www.swmich .edu/ceu.
