On April 6, Deputy Fire Chief Dale Hutchings announced to members of the Dowagiac Fire Department that he is retiring effective May 31.

Dale started his career with the city as a police dispatcher in 1977, and worked in that position until 1984, when he transferred to the Fire Department.

During that period of time Dale also served as a volunteer fireman and a police reserve.

After transferring to the Fire Department he also worked as an EMT on the Dowagiac Ambulance Service.

During his career with the Dowagiac Fire Department, Dale held the ranks of firefighter, lieutenant, assistant chief and deputy chief.

“He has worked for the City of Dowagiac for 34 years and will be missed,” City Manager Kevin Anderson said. “We wish Dale and Pam an enjoyable retirement.”
