Southwestern Michigan College is offering a code, safety and law course for licensed residential builders. The course will be offered four times: April 4 and 25, and May 9 and 23.
The April sessions will be held at the college’s Dowagiac campus and the May sessions at the Niles Area Campus. All four sessions run from 6 to 9:10 p.m. Participants only need to sign-up for one of the sessions.
This course has been approved by the state of Michigan and is required as a continuing competency for licensed residential builders. The non-credit course will cover residential building code updates; construction safety as defined by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA); and legal documentation required for Michigan residential builders.
Individuals who were initially licensed prior to Jan. 1, 2009 are required to have three hours of continuing competency covering building codes, safety and construction and business management laws.
Cost for the class is $55. The April sessions will meet in Dowagiac in the Jan and A.C. Kairis Building, room 523 and the May classes will meet in the MTEC facility on the Niles campus in rooms 214 and 215.
