Sister Lakes at Math-a-Rama

Sister Lakes Elementary School took part i n the Math-a-Rama at Southwestern Michigan College March 10 with the help of a grant from the Michigan Gateway Community Foundation. Sister Lakes came away with three first-place ribbons, one for second and three for third.

On Thursday, March 10, 15 Sister Lakes Elementary students and four adult chaperones gratefully took advantage of a recently awarded YAC Youth Grant by Michigan Gateway Community Foundation to participate in the Lewis Cass ISD annual Math-a-Rama event.

The event involved third, fourth and fifth grade students from Cassopolis, Dowagiac and Edwardsburg schools.

The event was held at Southwestern Michigan College and provided a “day of hands-on mathematical events designed to encourage thinking, communication, multiple answers, cooperative team effort, visualization and the ability to follow directions.” Events included Estimation, Problem Solving, Calculators, Geometry and Measurement as well as a Scavenger Hunt.

Sister Lakes boasts three third-place ribbons, one second and three first places.
