Two active methamphetamine labs and at least 25 previous labs were discovered in Dowagiac Friday afternoon by the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team.

The team reported that at about 1:30 p.m., narcotics investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of West Wayne Street. A search of the property found two active, one-pot style meth labs and the methamphetamine product inside the residence and at least 25 previous meth lab remains on the property.

Two adults were arrested at the scene for manufacturing meth within 500 feet of a residence; manufacturing meth; production of hazardous waste; possession of meth; maintaining a drug house; and because children were home during the execution of the search warrant, child endangerment.

Both adults were lodged at the Cass County Jail. Two children were placed into the custody of the Child Protective Services division of the Michigan Department of Human Services.

A chemical clean up and disposal service was called to the scene to remove numerous bags of meth lab waste as well as the active labs.

This matter is still under investigation.
