Niles-Eddies play to scoreless tie

When Niles and Edwardsburg get together, you can count on a couple of things.

The soccer matches are going to be close and more often than not, they end without a winner.

Such was the case Saturday morning as host Edwardsburg and Niles played to a scoreless tie in a non-conference match.

The two schools did not decide on overtime prior to the start of the contest, so when the clock reached 0:00 without so much as a goal, the match was called a draw.

The Eddies held a slim 5-4 advantage in shots on goal in the opening 40 minutes of play, but the Vikings ended up with a 17-8 advantage, many of those shots coming in the final 20 minutes of the match.

The Eddies had a golden opportunity in the first half to put a goal on the board, but Niles keeper Ryan Casey made a stop on the penalty kick to keep the match all square.

Yellow cards plagued the final 20 minutes leaving both teams without key players during that pivotal stretch.

The Vikings are back to work on Tuesday when they travel to Marcellus for a non-conference match.

The Eddies are back in action again tonight as they travel to Buchanan.
