8-year-olds moving into single elimination

The Howard Township A All-Star team reached the quarterfinals of the 8-year-old Ohio Valley Regional at Pepper Martin Park on Sunday.

Howard Township scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to defeat L’Anse Creuse North 4-3.

Howard played in the 8:30 p.m. quarterfinal match. Results were unavailable at press time.

Howard took a 3-1 lead into the fifth inning, but L’Anse Creuse North rallied to tie the score at 3-3.

In the bottom of the seventh, Drew Gourley singled to drive in the winning run.

Schererville…24

Brandywine 1…6

A seven-run first inning was all Schererville needed to defeat Brandywine Sunday morning in the final game of pool play.

Schererville also had a 10-run third inning and a six-run sixth inning en route to the 24-6 victory.

David Carter and Dylan Moffitt both scored four runs for Schererville.

Nolan Miller scored three times for Brandywine.

Crown Point Red…10

Harris Black…4

Both teams advanced to the single elimination portion of the tournament.

Mishawaka White…12

Crown Point White…19

Crown Point scored five runs in the second and fourth innings as it defeated Mishawaka 19-12.

Mishawaka scored four runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

Harris Black…21

Griffith…1

A 13-run fourth inning cut short the game between Harris Black and Griffith.

Harris Black scored five in the first, three in the third and then exploded for 13 runs in a 21-1 win over Griffith.

Ryan Lynch had a pair of doubles and a triple, while Luke Barker had three singles and a double for Harris.

Evan Groves added four hits.

Drew Davenport, Carson Crowe and Ronnie Dixon each had a hit for Griffith.

Benton Harbor…11

Clinton Valley…2

A pair of three-run inning broke open a close game as Benton Harbor defeated Clinton Valley 11-2.

Marcus Broadway and Jamarcia Jamo each had three hits, while Calvin Young had a pair of singles and a double for Benton Harbor.

Jake Volpe, Thomas Bryant and Tom Lugiuraij all singled and doubled for Clinton Valley.

East End Mishawaka…19

Howard got off to a quick start, but could not maintain it as Mishawaka posted a 19-4 victory.

Ethan Fowler had a single, three doubles and a triple to lead Mishawaka.

Clayton McClish and Zach Craft each had four hits.

Howard go two hits each from Blaine Harner and Zach Young.

Trey Knight had a double.

St. John Grey…27

Benton Harbor…5

St. John scored six runs in the first and fourth innings and 11 in the fifth to blow out Benton Harbor.

Crown Point White…29

Howard B was eliminated from the tournament by Crown Point.

Crown Point scored 15 runs in the first inning, three in the second and 11 in the third to end the game.

Other games

East Side defeated Mishawaka 22-0, Harris Gold topped Clinton Valley 17-3 and Crown Point Red defeated Pikeville 17-1.

The semifinals will be played on the lower field at 4 p.m. and 5:30. The title game is set for 8:30 p.m.
