On a night when the weather played havoc with the schedule, three teams picked up opening day wins at the 11-year-old Ohio Valley Regional at Firemen’s Park.

Due to an extra long game between Homewood and Germantown, the Howard Township-Schererville contest slated for 6 p.m. just got started when thunderstorms came through the area around 8 p.m.

Tournament officials were going to try and get that game in before the night was out if possible.

The Brandywine game against Whiteland was postponed until today.

Earlier in the day, Southeastern Lexington defeated Geneseo 11-1 in three innings, while Harris Township defeated Springfield 15-6.

In the third game of the day, Homewood defeated Germantown 12-1.

Southwest Lexington…11

Geneseo…1

It only took three innings for South East Lexington (East Kentucky) to take down Geneseo (Southern Illinois) 11-1 at Firemen’s Park in Niles Township.

East Kentucky scored two runs in the first and built momentum, scoring four runs in the second and five in the third. Geneseo could only manage one second inning run.

East Kentucky was led by Kaelen Covington, who had three hits and three RBIs on the day, while CJ Bush hit a three-run homerun.

Harris Township (Northern Indiana) used eight first inning runs to sprint past Springfield 15-6, despite being outhit by the Ohio squad 8 to 5.

Harris was led by Riley Smith’s three RBIs on a single and a double. Mathew Barnard also drove in a pair of runs for the winning squad.

Springfield was paced by Kalus Arnold and Tyron DeArmond, who both had two RBIs on the day. Michael McKay had a triple, driving in a run.
