A recall rally will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Eastside School.

Parents and supporters of the school – unhappy with the Niles Community School board of education’s decision to close Eastside in the wake of budget cuts – have yet to give up the fight to keep the school open.

Jeff Harrell, an Eastside parent, said recall petitions will be on hand at the rally.

“If people haven’t had a chance to sign them already, they will be able to do so,” he said.
Recall petitions have been issued for board president Dana Daniels, vice president Michael Dreher and treasurer Michael Waldron.

The district voted to move forward with recommendations made by Superintendent Doug Law to approve a budget proposal that included closing the school and reassigning students to Ballard, Howard-Ellis and Northside schools.

An official vote to amend that budget is expected at the board’s meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Westside Administration Building on Monday.
