Michigan falls to Metro in soccer 7-1

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Sports Fest boys’ soccer match between Michigan and Indiana Metro was no contest Tuesday night at Bethel College.

Metro scored three first half goals and never looked back in defeating Team Michigan 7-1 to advance to Thursday’s championship game against Indiana East.

Eric Walker of Penn High School scored all three first half goals for Metro.

He opened the scoring in the 18th minute and then added to his eventual hat trick with scores in the 31st and 39th minutes.

Metro scored the first two goals of the second half to increase its advantage to 5-0.

Benjamin Burnett and Manuel Garcia tallied in the 48th and 50th minutes.

Michigan averted the shutout as a pair of Edwardsburg players teamed up to score.

Zach Karamalegos scored in the 52nd minute off an assist from Trent Bybee.

Metro finished up the scoring with goals by Ali Mahamat and Nico Dipinto.

Michigan was outshot in the contest 12-5.

Jorge Becerril had five saves for Team Michigan.

Michigan did pick up a win in boys’ tennis on Tuesday as it soundly defeated Metro 4-1.

Michigan will face Indiana East, a winner by forfeit, on Thursday for the title.

Sports Fest continues today with boys’ basketball taking center stage.

Michigan will face Metro at 6 p.m.

On Thursday, champions will be crowned in all sports except for baseball and football.
