ALLENDALE – The Dowagiac golf team shot a stroke better on the second day of the Division 3 state golf finals, but that didn’t move the Chieftains out of 13th place in the overall standings.

Jackson Lumen Christi, which shot 293 on Friday, backed that up with a 311 to easily capture the state championship.

The Titans shot 604 over the two days, 29 strokes better than runner-up Big Rapids, which finished with a 633.

Detroit Country Day (640), Macomb Lutheran North (645) and Grand Rapids South Christian (650) rounded out the top five.

Dowagiac finished with a two-day total of 687.

The Chieftains were led by Chris Craft’s 157. Craft shot 79 on Saturday and finished three strokes out of the top 10.
