EAST LANSING – Information provided to the Michigan High School Athletic Association that confirms the participation of a student-athlete in violation of limited team membership rules has resulted in the withdrawal of the top-seeded player in the No. 1 Singles draw for this weekend’s (June 4-5) MHSAA Lower Peninsula Division 4 Girls Tennis Finals in Kalamazoo.

The withdrawal of a student-athlete from Ann Arbor Greenhills from the event does not affect the status of the team for the meet, which qualified by winning a regional title on May 20.

The bracket, however, for the No.1 singles flight in Division 4 has been redrawn and is now posted to the MHSAA Web site.

A student-athlete in tennis may participate in a maximum of two non-school meets or contests while not representing their school during the same season once the team has conducted its first contest or scrimmage.

The Unites States Tennis Association’s Web site confirms participation in three meets by the student-athlete, the third taking place Memorial Day weekend.

Buchanan’s Kristine Gordon, who advanced to the state finals by finishing second at No. 1 singles at the regional tournament, received a first round bye.

Gordon will take on the winner of Nicole-Sheppard of Harbor Springs and Elle Eldridge of Portland opening round match.
