Back for its junior year, is the Volunteer Center of Southwest Michigan’s Summer Youth Volunteer Recruiting Program, Youth Summer Serve.
Youth Summer Serve connects young people, middle school through high school age, with volunteer opportunities in communities in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties.
The Volunteer Center is pleased to host this program of the Youth Volunteer Corps of Southwest Michigan that is affiliated with the Youth Volunteer Corps of America. Last year, 10 youth each completed 40 hours of volunteer service at area nonprofit agencies and generated over 800 volunteer service hours.
Youth volunteer 40 hours each from June 14 through Aug. 14 at nonprofit organizations and service projects of their choice.
Youth who complete the program are recognized for their contribution of service at Volunteer Day, Thursday, Aug. 19 at the Berrien County Youth Fair.
Youth volunteers receive valuable experience that can go toward leadership development, resume-building, school requirements and career pathway exploration. Communities benefit from youth volunteerism because nonprofit service organizations can continue and expand their services.
