Jessica Biek wins Cass’ first 1,600-meter title

ARCELLUS – Jessica Biek captured Cassopolis’ first 1,600-meter regional championship Friday night at Marcellus High School at the Division 4 meet.
Biek easily won the championship with a time of 5:48.80.
The Rangers will take five girls in four events to the state finals on June 5 at Jenison High School.
Damonica Kelly qualified in the 300-meter low hurdles with a time of 51.30, while Chastity Williams will be looking for her fourth consecutive medal in the 100-meters after running 13.30 on Friday night.
Cassopolis also qualified its 400-meter relay team of Williams, Kelly, Breanna Coleman and Jameka Eleazer as they posted a time of 54.10.
The Rangers will take its 800-meter relay team to the state finals after they ran a 1:35.50.
That team consisted of Steven Eleazer, Jaylin Lawson, Evan Brown and Christian Simpson.
Eleazer will also compete in the 400-meters after posting a time of 52.60 at the regional.
Overall, the Cass boys’ team earned 19 medals in nine events, while the girls’ team grabbed 24 medals in 10 events.
