Edwardsburg wins Coloma Invitational

COLOMA – Edwardsburg softball team captured the Coloma Invitational title with a 6-4 win over the host Comets in the title game on Saturday.

The Eddies reached the finals with a 17-1 win over River Valley and a 10-5 win over Watervliet.

In the championship game, Edwardsburg opened up a 3-0 lead after an inning and a half only to have the Comets come back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to make it a one-run contest.

Three more runs in the fifth inning extended the Eddies’ lead to 6-2. Coloma scored a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Andrea LaPlace picked up the victory for the Eddies.

Edwardsburg finished with 10 hits, including a double from Deb Burton and two hits each from Aubrey Coquillard, Amelia Breslin and Ashley Tackett.

The Eddies scored eight of their 10 runs against Watervliet in the final three innings to advance to the championship game.

Ashley Tackett tossed a five-hitter for Edwardsburg.

The Eddies had 12 hits, including a homerun and a single from Burton. Coquillard had four hits. Allison Koontz doubled and singled twice, while Breslin also doubled.

A six-run first inning set the tone for Edwardsburg in its opener against River Valley.

LaPlace picked up the win with a one-hitter.

The Eddies, who also had a seven-run inning against the Mustangs, finished with 13 hits.

Breslin and Victoria Hurst both doubled. Burton finished with four hits and Koontz three.

Edwardsburg at Mendon
MENDON – The Edwardsburg softball team raised its record to 13-7 with a sweep of Mendon on Monday.

The Eddies won the first game 8-0 as Ashley Tackett tossed a two-hitter.

Edwardsburg banged out 10 hits, led by Deb Burton’s double and Victoria Hurst’s two hits.

In the second game, Andrea LaPlace bettered Tackett by tossing a one-hitter.

The Eddies scored eight runs on seven hits and took advantage of a trio of Mendon errors.

Maddie Holmes singled and doubled for Edwardsburg, which also got two hits from Burton and a double from Hurst.

Lakeshore at Edwardsburg
Edwardsburg upset No. 4 ranked Lakeshore in the opening game with a 4-1 victory.

The Lancers bounced back in the nightcap to win 3-2.

Ashley Tackett tossed a four-hitter in the opening game to pick up the victory.

Aubrey Coquillard and Tackett both singled and doubled for the Eddies.

In the nightcap, Andrea LaPlace took the loss.

Deb Burton homered for the lone Edwardsburg run. Tackett added a double.

Berrien Springs at Edwardsburg
The Edwardsburg softball team has been on a roll of late and that continued on Tuesday with a sweep of Berrien Springs in Lakeland Conference action.

The Eddies defeated the Shamrocks 9-0 and 2-1.

In the opening game, Edwardsburg has 12 hits, of which four were doubles.

Amelia Breslin led the Eddies with three hits, including a double. Aubrey Coquillard, Emily Shoupe and Ashley Tackett also collected two-baggers.

Tackett tossed a four-hitter to earn the victory.

In the second game, Edwardsburg scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the victory.

Andrea LaPlace got the victory with Tackett earning a save by pitching the seventh.
LaPlace also had two of the Eddies’ seven hits.
