Edwardsburg sweeps Berrien to stay in thick of title chase

The Edwardsburg baseball team remained in the thick of the Lakeland Conference race after sweeping visiting Berrien Springs on Tuesday.

The Eddies (12-6, 4-2 Lakeland) won the opening game 2-1 with a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh.

Edwardsburg then completed the sweep with a 5-0 victory in the nightcap.

Zach Thompson scattered six hits and struck out eight without walking a batter to pick up the victory for the Eddies.

Edwardsburg finished with five hits, including a pair from Dan Witucki.

After scoring single runs in the second and third innings of the nightcap, Edwardsburg scored three in the bottom of the sixth to secure the victory.

Kyle Slack was the winning pitcher, striking out five and allowing five hits.

Offensively for the Eddies, who had seven hits in the contest, Slack singled and doubled.

Edwardsburg also got doubles from Ethan Moreno and Thompson, while Witucki had a pair of triples.
