Brandywine baseball, softball team sweep Rangers

The Brandywine baseball team played a little power baseball on Tuesday to sweep a Lakeland Conference doubleheader from Cassopolis.

The Bobcats took the opener 5-3 behind the two-hit pitching of Joe Godfrey and then completed the sweep as Dustin Bell tossed a one-hitter in the nightcap.

Derek Nichols provided most of the offensive pop in the first game as he doubled and homered for Brandywine, which had five hits off of losing pitcher Kevin Hatcher.

Dashaun Curtis and Dwayne Morgan had the hits for the Rangers.

“We came out and played baseball,” first-year Cassopolis coach Matt Brawley said. “We competed with one of the best teams in the area and had a chance to win it.”

In the second game, Austin Searles hit a homerun and doubled, while Bell and Godfrey both doubled as the Bobcats finished with 11 hits.

Brandon Davis had the lone hit for Cassopolis.

“Things were going real well and then we just had a mental laps,” Brawley said of the third inning downfall. “You can’t have that against good teams and Brandywine is a good team.”

CASSOPOLIS – Visiting Brandywine scored 21 runs in both games to sweep a Lakeland Conference doubleheader from Cassopolis on Tuesday.

The Bobcats collected 18 hits in the opening game, led by Arielle Colcord’s four singles.

Brandywine also got thee hits from Rachael Ort, a double and two singles from winning pitcher Mikayla Kemp and a triple and a single from Chelsea Ravish.

In the second game, Tori Hunt had four hits, while Pellow singled and doubled.

The Bobcats also got a pair of hits from both Colcord and Kemp.

Cass vs. Michigan Lutheran
The Cassopolis baseball team split a pair of games with Michigan Lutheran.

The Rangers dropped the opener 3-1, but won the nightcap 9-6.

Rick Hayden went 2-for-3 with a double.

Kevin Hatcher took the loss.

In the second game, Hayden went 3-for-4 with a homerun.

Dwayne Morgan also homered, while Dashaun Curtis was 2-for-4 with a double. Nathan Blad was the winning pitcher.

Cassopolis vs. Michigan Lutheran
The Cassopolis softball team was swept by Michigan Lutheran 7-6 and 13-3.

Olivia Stewart took the loss in both games.

Stewart went 3-for-4 with a homerun, two triples and two RBIs.

Serena Sawyer also had two hits and Autumn Perrin singled and doubled. In the second game, Stewart doubled and drove in a run, while Courtney Foster doubled and singled.
