Dowagiac Director of Public Safety Tom Atkinson reports his officers arrested a juvenile subject for a strong-armed robbery that occurred on Monday, May 3, at approximately 1 p.m.

Dowagiac police were dispatched to the 400 block of S. Front Street and advised a robbery had just occurred there.

Officers responded and made contact with the victim, a 45-year-old female from Dowagiac.

She advised she was on the sidewalk in the 400 block of S. Front when she was approached by a male subject who took her purse and ran from the scene.

She was able to give police a description of the suspect and he was located walking a few blocks from the scene.

The suspect was taken into custody by Dowagiac police without incident.

Police located the stolen purse a few feet from the suspect. The victim sustained no injuries as a result of this incident. Police arrested the 15-year-old male suspect from Dowagiac for strong-armed robbery. He was turned over to Cass County Probate Court where he was lodged in a juvenile detention facility.

The juvenile suspect will be petitioned into Probate Court pending authorization of charges by the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office. Police withheld the suspect’s name due to his status as a juvenile.
