ALLEGAN – The Dowagiac golf team maintained its second place standing in the Wolverine Conference golf chase after finishing third on Monday at the Lynx Golf Course.

Plainwell shot 155 to win the jamboree hosted by Allegan. Vicksburg, who remains atop the conference standings, finished second with a 156.

Dowagiac finished with a 161. Gull Lake placed fourth with a 163.

“We are not playing that badly,” Dowagiac coach Van Johnson said. “Forty is not a bad score. But one night we have a kid shot 38 and the next night he shoots 42. We are just not complimenting each other.”

Cody Fairleigh led the Chieftains with a 38. Dowagiac also got a pair of 40s from Max Howe and Kyle Ward. Chris Craft and Jordan Juday both shot 42.

Dowagiac now leads Gull Lake by a point for second place in the conference standings.

The league will play again on Wednesday with Gull Lake as the host school.

The Dowagiac junior varsity golf team fell to host Lakeshore on Monday 166-209.

Joey Gajewski led the Chieftains with a 45. Dowagiac (5-2) also got a 54 from Andrew Cripe, a 55 from Gaige Grant, a 55 from Anthony Nelson and a 60 from Jonathan Robinson.

Dowagiac will host Eau Claire on Wednesday at Hampshire Country Club.
