‘Cats split games at tourney

Host Brandywine split a pair of games on Saturday in its own invitational.

The Bobcats dropped a 12-9 decision to Paw Paw in the opening game of the Brandywine Round Robin.

Brandywine bounced back to win its second game 8-3 over Schoolcraft.

The Redskins scored four runs in the third, two in the fourth and three runs in the sixth. Single runs in the fifth and seventh accounted for their runs.

The Bobcats scored single runs in the second and sixth innings to go along with three runs in the third and four runs in the fourth.

Alex Erwin took the loss.

Brandywine was outhit by Paw Paw 14-8.

Joe Godrey hit a homerun, while Buck Bourdon and Derek Nichols both doubled.

In the second game, Brandywine scored all eight of its runs in the first three innings.

The Bobcats scored three runs in the first and second innings and then two in the third.

Dustin Bell scattered six hits to earn the mound victory.

Brandywine finished with 11 hits. Bell and Ralph Sater both doubled.

Paw Paw defeated Schoolcraft 8-6 to claim the tournament championship.

The Bobcats will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Cassopolis for a Lakeland Conference doubleheader with the Rangers.

The first game will begin at 4:15 p.m.
