Dowagiac’s Top 10 graduates

Future FBI agent Cassandra Stone and mathematician or scientist Kelsey Foote were introduced to the Dowagiac Board of Education Monday night at the middle school by Principal Paul Hartsig as valedictorian and salutatorian of Union High School’s Class of 2010.
Cassandra, daughter of Doug and Peggy Foster and Kevin Stone, leads her class with a 3.91 grade point average.
Her top eight high school activities include varsity basketball, varsity golf, band, cross county, National Honor Society (NHS), of which she is secretary, and Humanities Club.
Cassandra earned the Academic Award of Excellence, Academic All-Conference for basketball and was Chieftain Marching Band clarinet section leader.
She plans to attend the University of Minnesota College of Liberal Arts Honor Program and the School of Law, Criminology and Deviance to become a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent.
Kelsey, daughter of Christopher and Megan Foote, achieved a 3.85 GPA to rank second in her class.
The NHS treasurer also earned an Academic Award of Excellence, received an Elks scholarship and led her marching band section.
Kelsey plans to attend the Honors College at Michigan State University for a career in math or science.

College: Southwestern Michigan College (SMC), then transfer to an art institute.

4. Haley Spencer

GPA: 3.77

Awards: NHS, Academic Award of Excellence
College: attending the University of Michigan to obtain a bachelor’s degree in business education

5. Isaac Longden
Parents: Stephen and Cherie Longden
GPA: 3.76
Activities: Chamber Choir, Chorale Choir, drama (portrayed Danny Zuko in the spring musical, “Grease”)
Awards: NHS, academic letter
College: SMC, Western Michigan University
Career: master’s degree in theater technology to “run my own theater in New York”

College: SMC, then transfer to a university to obtain an electrical engineering degree

8. Elisabeth Gokey

College: SMC, then transfer to MSU to obtain her degree in veterinarian medicine
