Dowagiac golfers win Paw Paw jamboree, move into first place in golf chase

PAW PAW – Led by freshman Jordan Juday, the Dowagiac varsity golf team grabbed the second Wolverine Conference Jamboree on Thursday at Heritage Glen.

Juday shot 39 to finish one stroke off of medalist and led the Chieftains to a 163.

Gull Lake finished second at 168, while Vicksburg was third and Otsego fourth with identical 171s.

The Bulldogs, who won the first jamboree on Wednesday, earned third place based on the fifth-man tiebreaker.

South Haven finished sixth (181), Paw Paw seventh (191), Allegan eighth (196), Three Rivers ninth (200) and Comstock 10th (202).

The Chieftains lead the overall standings with 19 points. The Bulldogs are second with 18 points and Gull Lake third with 16. Otsego and Plainwell round out the top five with 15 and 12 points respectively.

Gull Lake’s Bryan VandenBerg and Vicksburg’s Jason Vanderklok finished tied for medalist honors with a 38.

Cody Fairleigh turned in the second lowest score for Dowagiac with a 40 on Thursday. Chris Craft, who was medalist on Wednesday, shot 42. Max Howe also got a 42, while Kyle Ward shot 43.

“We were led by our No. 4 and No. 5 guys today,” Dowagiac coach Van Johnson said. “That’s why they call it a team. We still have some work to do, so we will get back at it tomorrow.”

The Wolverine Conference is back at it today as it travels to South Haven for its third consecutive jamboree at Hawkshead.

Play is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
