Shots fired in Wayne Twp., suspect captured in city

CASSOPOLIS – Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood reports that on Wednesday, March 31, at 7:41 p.m. his office responded to a disturbance in the 26000 block of Dutch Settlement in Wayne Township.

During investigation by sheriff’s deputies, a vehicle was found to have damage caused by the suspect shooting two bullets into the side of the victim’s car.

A description of the suspect was gathered from the scene and of the suspect.

Later, an off-duty Dowagiac police officer spotted the suspect in the City of Dowagiac.

The suspect attempted to flee the scene and was subdued by the detective.

The handgun used during this incident was recovered.

The suspect is in custody at the Cass County Jail.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by Dowagiac Police Department and the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team.

This incident remains under investigation.
