A pair of goals from Bjargey Olafsson made the debut of the Cassopolis varsity soccer team a success Tuesday afternoon.

Olafsson scored a goal in each half as the Rangers defeated visiting Dowagiac 2-0 in the season opener for both schools.

Olafsson’s first goal came in the 19th minute and appeared to be the only score of the match as the two teams battled pretty much between the goal boxes.

Olafsson took a pass from Meagan Ruff and beat the Chieftain defender and blasted a shot off her left foot past Dowagiac keeper JoJo Pickar.

But late in the match, Olafsson got loose again and scored to make it 2-0 in favor of the Rangers.

Olafsson worked down the left hand side of the field, past several defenders and then shot the ball past one Chieftain and over the head of keeper Alyssa Fritz.

The Chieftains held a 16-5 advantage in shots on goal. Dowagiac had several opportunities to score, but could not get the ball past Cassopolis keeper Molly Mroz.
