BATTLE CREEK – The Niles freshmen boys’ basketball team defeated Battle Creek Central 68-54 Tuesday night.

The Vikings got 15 points from Rodney Applewhite and 10 points from Alex Brown. Anthony Bice and John Franklin both finished with nine points.

Niles is now 1-2 on the season heading into tonight’s game against host Lakeshore.

Taylor Campbell led the Vikings with 16 points and Trey Nichols added 10.

The Niles girls’ freshmen basketball team handed visiting Battle Creek Central a 38-30 setback Tuesday night.

Bridgett Carpenter led the Vikings with 10 points, while Karon Nichols finished with eight points and five steals.

Sarah Cramer chipped in with seven points and eight rebounds. Eva Nemeth finished with seven assists.
