CASSOPOLIS – Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that on Dec. 30 at approximately 5:30 p.m., deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a personal-injury accident on U.S. 12 near Bell Road in Milton Township.

A vehicle driven by Shirley Vargo, 65, of Niles, had stopped on U.S. 12 near Bell Road to make a left turn.

An eastbound vehicle driven by Ryan Linn, 22, of Elkhart, Ind., didn’t observe Vargo turning and rear-ended Vargo’s vehicle.

Vargo was transported by Edwardsburg Ambulance to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Ind., for treatment of minor injuries. Linn and two passengers in his vehicle were uninjured.

Seatbelts were worn by all subjects involved, and alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.

Assisting at the scene were Niles Township Fire Department and Edwardsburg Ambulance.
