Edwardsburg’s Katie Kopf has earned an equestrian scholarship to the University of South Carolina.

She has competed the past four years for the Edwardsburg Equestrian Team under the direction of coach Diane Rangel.

Edwardsburg has won eight district championships and three regional titles. The team, which is a club sport, finished third in the state of Michigan.

Rangel said that Kopf is a dedicated rider who will be missed.

“She has been a wonderful rider,” she said. “She is a hard worker and a good student. Her parents have always been supportive.”

Kopf said she chose South Carolina because she liked the school, the coach and the other girls on the squad.

South Carolina is coached by Boo Duncan, who has led the Gamecocks since 1998.

South Carolina has won two national championships (2005, 2007) and three Hunt Seat national championships (2005, 2006, 2007).
