Bucks blank Rangers in Lakeland tourney

BUCHANAN – Buchanan scored quick and often Wednesday afternoon to take an 8-0 Lakeland Conference first round tournament win over visiting Cassopolis.

Tony Payne hit the Bucks’ first goal of the afternoon 18 seconds into the match. Buchanan continued to pound the ball into the goal taking a 7-0 first half lead.

Richie Reed finished with a hat trick, scoring all three of his goals in the first half.

Tony Payne knocked home the first two scores for the Bucks, followed by two of Reed’s goals.

Ryan Catalano scored a goal and picked up four assist, while Tye Payne and Tyler Powers each added to the scoring.

Buchanan finished the afternoon taking 12 shots on goal with Ranger goalkeeper John Simpson coming up with six saves.

The Rangers had eight shots on goal with Steven VanAlstine making three saves for the Bucks.

Powers’ goal, and the Bucks eighth score of the game, came with 21 minutes to play in the second half to end the match with the mercy rule taking affect.

The Bucks advance to play Bridgman, which defeated Brandywine 5-0 on Wednesday.

Buchanan will travel to Bridgman on Monday for the semifinals. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m.
