The Niles freshmen football team defeated visiting Lakeshore Thursday afternoon 20-0.

The Vikings jumped out to a lead in the first quarter and led 12-0 at halftime, with touchdowns scored by Alec Landon and Fritz Findeisen on a 3-yard run.

Chris Mangus threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Pierce and Anthony Bice added the extra point.

Big plays on defense were made by Findeisen, who recovered a fumble, and Marcus Hatcher, who had an interception and returned it for 35 yards.

Alex Wentz and Derek Scott were also outstanding on the defensive line. Dominique Ledesma had a standout game at cornerback.

“He said he was excited and nervous to start his first game at cornerback,” said Niles coach Steve Grayson, who felt the key to the victory was that the running backs ran hard and the defense had some big stops when needed.

The Freshmen are 5-1 and play at Portage Northern next week.
