BUCHANAN – On a very windy Monday afternoon Buchanan out-shot visiting Brandywine 17-8 on the way to a 3-1 Lakeland Conference win.

Dylan Arnold, Tony Payne and Zack Pierce each scored for the Bucks. Ryan Catalano and Richie Reed each picked up an assist.

The teams were deadlocked at one after the first half before the Bucks picked up two quick goals in the opening minutes of the second half.

“The first half was a tough half. Brandywine came out and played hard and really well,” Buchanan coach Brian Pruett said. “We were not playing up to our abilities I don’t think. In the second half we came out strong and got a couple quick goals and finally started picking up the intensity to match Brandywine’s intensity. They gave us a good game.”

The Bucks will play their final home game of the season on Thursday when they host Bridgman at 5 p.m.

ALLEGAN – The Dowagiac soccer team blanked host Allegan 2-0 in a Wolverine Conference match Monday night.

The Chieftains scored a goal in each half to defeat the Tigers.

“We played very well and moved the ball despite the downpour and wind during the whole game,” Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said. “Craig Zebell and Americo Martinez did a great job controlling the center of the field and distributing it outside. Jason Turner is improving every day in goal and brings confidence to the team.”

Kasey Proshwitz opened the scoring for the Chieftains in the ninth minute.

In the second half, Andrew Cripe found the back of the net in the 63rd minute.

The Chieftains outshot the Tigers 23-5.
