COLDWATER – Host Coldwater outshot Niles 18-8 on its way to a 5-0 Big 16 Conference non-divisional victory Thursday night.

The Cardinals scored two goals in the first half to take a 2-0 halftime lead and then added three more scores in the final 40 minutes of play.

Derek Arguello had 12 saves for the Vikings.

“Tonight was another difficult contest,” Niles coach Jerry Holtgren said. ” Coldwater has great team speed and as the game wore on, we had a tough time staying up with them. We had three starters out of the contest and that was difficult in regards to chemistry as well as staying fresh.

“The guys played well for the first half, outside of the goal in the last minute, but ran out of steam with about 20 minutes remaining in the contest. Kassim Dafa played well for us up front and as a defender. He was required to play multiple positions and was able to make the adjustment well.”
