COMSTOCK – The Dowagiac freshmen football team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 56-12 win over host Comstock Thursday afternoon.

Brendon Murray scored three touchdowns for the Chieftains. He carried the ball five times for 97 yards and a pair of scores and caught a 56-yard touchdown pass.

Derek Stark also had three touchdowns for Dowagiac. He finished with eight carries for 197 yards. Todd McIntyre added five carries for 118 yards and two scores.

On defense, Jeremy Zeilke and Jacob Worthington were singled out for their efforts, Logan Polomcak and Brandon DeGraff both had interceptions.

The Chieftains did not give up score on defense as Comstock’s 12 points came on a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown and a kickoff return.

“Our offensive line Conner East, Logan Polomcak, Shane Filley, Dallas Hale and Tyler Duffy played great and allowed our backs to get into space,” Dowagiac coach Tony Scaccia said. “The backs did a nice job blocking for each other and really ran the ball well.”
